Strategies for achieving SSA goals

For achieving Universalization of Elementary Education the perspective plan of Chandigarh U.T.had proposed to cover all children by:

  • Opening New Schools.
  • Creating Additional capacity in existing schools.
  • Improving school infrastructure and teaching learning environment  for Enrolment and retention.
  • Opening of Special Training Centres for never enrolled and dropped out  children.
  • Thus to counter the problems access & quality the following strategies & interventions has been taken :
  • Opening of new Primary sections for children being mainstreamed from AIE/ STC centers.
  • Double shifts in existing Govt. Schools till the completion of new buildings, additional blocks class rooms.
  • Flexible timings of Special Training Centres in schools for accommodating the children engaged in sibling care.
  • Construction of additional pre-fabricated classrooms to provide speedy solution to shortage of rooms.
  • Opening of STCs for out of school children, including repeaters drop out and never enrolled children.
  • Tracking of migrating children and convergence with other States by issuing cards indicating the learning levels achieved by the child by STC centres.
  • Appointment of 728 posts of JBTs, 647 posts of TGTs and 15 posts of Head-Teachers sanctioned under SSA to reduce pupil teacher ratio.
  • Creation of additional learning space in schools such as learning aids around the corners, corridors and walls to maximize the utilization of space in schools facing shortage of class rooms.
  • Innovative and joyful teaching learning through improved pedagogy by providing in-service training to teachers.
  • Creation of Quality Assessment Unit to improve quality of education.
  • Sensitization of special focus groups by holding awareness camps, Nukkad-Nataks, Rallies and celebration of important days with participation of community.
  • Mass awareness campaigns in slums and unauthorized areas with the help of community leaders.
