State Scholarship Schemes

1. Attendance Scholarship to Girls students from I to V Class.

Objective: To enroll maximum girl students & to improve the attendance of Girl Students from I to V Class in Govt. Schools under Chandigarh Administration.

Criteria/Eligibility: A girl Student studying in class I to V in non model Govt. Schools whose parents/Guardian’s annual income does not exceed from Rs. 150000/- per Annum is given an Attendance Scholarship @ Rs. 250/- per month for 10 month in a year up to maximum limit of Rs. 2500/- per Annum provided she completes 75% attendance or more in a month as per norms of the Chandigarh Administration.

Mode of payment: Direct Benefit Transfer through PFMS (Public Financial Management System).

2. Attendance Scholarship to SC/ST Students from I to VIII class.

Objective: To ensure enrollment of all SC/ST students of the age Group of 6-14 years i.e. from I to VIII class.

Criteria/eligibility: All the SC/ST Boys & Girls students covered under the scheme of Attendance Scholarship to SC/ST students from 1st to 8th class. These students are given scholarship @ Rs. 250/- per month subject to maximum of Rs. 2500/- in a year (i.e. for ten month in a year). The student is supposed to complete 60% attendance in a month as per norms of the Chandigarh Administration to avail this concession and his/her family annual income does not exceed Rs. 1,50,000/- per Annum.

3. Talent Search Scholarship to SC/ST Students

Objective: To provide admission in Govt. Model Schools for the Talented Students from non model schools belonging to SC/ST Category.

Criteria/Eligibility: The Students studying in Class 3rd in Govt. non model Schools are selected for admission to class III in Govt. Model School on the basis of Talent Search Scholarship Examination conducted by the Education Department, Chandigarh. In order to qualify the test, a student is required to obtain 60% marks. Thereafter the student is allotted Govt. Model School for admission convenient to him/her. SC/ST students are paid scholarship @ Rs. 150/- pm for 12 months plus Rs 200/- for stationery in a year.

Mode of payment: Direct Benefit Transfer through PFMS (Public Financial Management System).

4. Extra Coaching classes to SC economically weaker and socially under privileged.

Objective: To eliminate the drop outs.

Criteria/Eligibility: Special coaching to SC students in the Govt. School studying in V, VIII, X and XII classes is proposed to be given for 2 hours after school and for 5 Months in the fag end of the year. Three subjects i.e. English, Science & Maths are selected for special coaching as students are generally weak in these subjects.

Mode of payment: The payment of honorarium to the teachers by the Head/DDO of the Institutions through Electronic Fund Transfer in their bank accounts.

5. Assistance to Physically CHALLENGED Students from I to VIII class

Objective: To give financial assistance for studies.

Criteria/Eligibility: This scholarship is to be granted @ Rs. 250/- PM to the students of class I to V and @Rs. 300/-PM to the students of class VI to VIII for 12 months with the condition that the income of their parents/guardians does not exceed Rs. 1.50 lac per Annum and she/he should have passed previous exam. The disability in each case should be to the extent of 40% and above.

6. Award of Meritorious Scholarship to SC/ST Students from IX to XII class.

Objective: For the improvement of pass percentage

Criteria/Eligibility: Students who have passed VIII, IX, X and XI classes by securing at least 55% marks are eligible for this scholarship with the condition that family income does not exceed Rs. 1.50 lac per Annum & caste certificate required from 1st class magistrate. The Scholarship is to be granted @ Rs. 300/- per month for 12 months.

7. Stipend to SC/ST & BC STUDENTS under State Harijan Welfare Scheme from VI to VIII class

Objective: Financial Help for studies to the students from VI to VIII class.

Criteria/Eligibility: Student who has passed 5th class examination is eligible for this scholarship. This scholarship is to be granted @ Rs. 150/- PM to Boys and @ RS. 200/- PM to girl students for 12 Months with the condition that the family income of the student does not exceed from Rs. 1.50 lac per Annum and caste certificate is required from 1st class magistrate.

Mode of payment: Direct Benefit Transfer through PFMS (Public Financial Management System).

8. Merit Scholarship on the basis of 5th class Scholarship Exam to the students from VI to VIII class.

Objective: For improvement in merit

Criteria/Eligibility: Students who have passed 5th class scholarship exam conducted by the Education Department, Chandigarh Administration are eligible for this scholarship with the condition that the students are not in receipt of any other scholarship and their family income does not exceed from Rs 1.50 Lac per Annum. The Scholarship is to be granted @ Rs. 150/- PM for 12 Months.

9. Merit Scholarship on the basis on the bass of 8th class annual Examination to the students of 9th Class.

Objective: For improvement in merit.

Criteria/Eligibility: Students who have secured 95% and above marks from Model Schools and 85% and above marks from ordinary schools in 8th class annual exam are eligible for this scholarship. The scholarship is to be granted @ 350/- PM for 12 Months.

Centrally Sponsored Scholarship Scheme

  1. Pre-Matric Scholarship to the Students belonging to Minority Communities from 1st to 10th Class.
  2. The scholarship at pre-matric level will encourage parents from minority communities to send their school going children to school, lighten their financial burden on school education and sustain their efforts to support their children to complete school education. The scheme will form the foundation for their educational attainment and provide a level playing field in the competitive employment arena. Empowerment through education, which is one of the objective of this scheme, has the potential to lead the upliftment of the socio economic conditions of the minority communities..
  • Scholarship will be awarded to the students who have secured not less than 50% marks in the previous final examination and annual income of their parents/guardian from all sources does not exceed Rs. 1.00 lakh. An Income Certificate, issued from a Competent Authority in the State/UT Governments is required in respect of parent/guardian of the student.

RATE OF SCHOLARSHIP: Actual financial assistance will be provided for admission/tuition fee and maintenance allowance as given below subject to a maximum ceiling indicated against item concerned

  1. Pre-Matric Scholarship to SC Students of IX and X Class.

Objective: To support parents of SC children for education of their wards studying in class 9th and 10th so that the incidence of drop-out, especially in the transition from the elementary to the secondary stage is minimized, and to improve participation of SC children in Classes 9th and 10th of the pre-matric stage, so that they perform better and have a better change of progressing to the post-matric stage of education.

Criteria/Eligibility:

  1. Students should belong to scheduled Caste.
  2. His/her parent/Guardian’s income not exceed Rs. 2.50 Lakh per annum. Income declaration of self employed parents/guardian should be in the form of a certificate issued by Revenue officer not below rank of Tehsildar. Employed parents/guardians are required to obtain income certificate from their employer Employed parents/ guardians should obtain consolidated certificate from Revenue officer for any other additional source of income He/she should be regular, full time students studying in a Government school or in school recognized by Govt. or a Central/State Board of Secondary Education.
  3. Scholarship for studying in any class will be available for only one year. If a student has repeat a class, she/he would not get scholarship for that class for second (or Subsequent) year.

  1. Pre-Matric Scholarship to OBC students from 1st to 10th class a scheme by Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment.

Objective

Children of OBCs from the poorer section who not go schools as they often have to provide a helping hand to their parents in traditional occupation of otherwise supplement the family income. It is considered that a scheme of Pre-Matric Scholarship would be helpful in spreading education amongst such children specially amongst the girl child of weaker sections. A scheme of Pre-Matric Scholarship for the benefit of children belonging to weaker section amongst OBCs has been formulated with the object in view.

Eligibility

Scholarship Award will be sanctioned in the case of students whose parents/guardians income from all sources does not exceed Rs.2.50 Lakh per annum and students should belong to Other Backward Class. The duration of scholarship in an academic year will be 10 months. Scholarship for studying in any class will be available for only one year. If a student has repeat a class, she/he would not get scholarship for that class for second (or Subsequent) year. Regular attendance record of the students not less than 60% in previous class.

Rate of Scholarship

  1. Day Scholar: - the students as day scholars will be covered from 1st to 10 class and rate of scholarship Rs. 100/- per month for 10 months.
  2. Ad-Hoc Grant: - An ad-hoc grant of Rs. 500/- per student per annum to all students i.e. hostlers as well as day scholars will be also given.

  1.  National scheme of Incentive to SC/ST girl students for secondary education

Objective

To establish an enabling environment to reduce the drop out and to promote the enrolment of girl child belonging to SC communities in secondary schools and ensure their retention upto 18 years of age.

Eligibility

A girls students who passes the 8th class exam and enrolls in secondary school will be eligible to apply under this scheme. She should be below 16 years of age as on 31st March of the academic year. She should continue her studies at least for 2 years i.e. upto 10th class.

Rate of Incentive

A sum of Rs. 3000/- will be deposited in the name of beneficiary in her Bank Account as FD (Fixed Deposit) and she would be entitled to withdraw it on reaching 18 years of age and also on clearance of 10th class exam.
